Gachon University Gil Hospital 'Local Cancer Center Symposium' organized by Incheon Metropolitan City

The '2024 Regional Cancer Center Symposium" was held at Songdo Central Park Hotel in Incheon on the 6th to explore the development of regional cancer centers, a national cancer management business hub. The regional cancer center symposium is held annually by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the National Cancer Center, and 13 regional cancer centers nationwide. This year's event was organized by the Incheon Regional Cancer Center, run by Gachon University Gil Hospital.
The event was attended by more than 100 officials from regional cancer centers across the country, including Yoo Bo-young, head of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's disease policy division, Choi Gwi-sun, head of the National Cancer Center's National Cancer Management Division, Kang Jin-mo, head of the surgical department at Gachon University Gil Hospital, Lim Jeong-soo, head of the public medical department at Gachon University Gil Hospital, and Baek Jeong-heum, head of the Incheon Regional Cancer Center.
This year's symposium was especially meaningful because it was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the first designation of three regional cancer centers: Gyeongnam, Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk in 2004. 'The strength of being together, the beginning of overcoming cancer! Under the theme of' with the regional cancer center, the theme was to share the achievements so far and to explore the role and development direction of the regional cancer center to strengthen essential medical care in the region.
Yoo Bo-young, director of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Disease Policy Division, said in a congratulatory speech that `The Regional Cancer Center has faithfully played a leading role in promoting electrical projects such as cancer prevention and management for cancer patients living in local areas for the past 20 years"I hope that today's symposium will lead to in-depth discussions on sustainable development at a critical time when changes in the medical environment and policy require significant changes in the cancer management business."
Kang Jin-mo, vice president of the surgical department at Gachon University Gil Hospital, said in a welcoming speech, `The role of the regional cancer center is more important because the treatment of cancer patients affects not only the patient, but also the family and society as a whole, and I hope it will be a place to share and develop various opinions on essential medical care.'
The first part of the symposium was presented by Lim Jeong-soo, head of the public medical division at Gachon University Gil Hospital, under the theme of the role of a regional cancer center to strengthen essential medical care in the region. Director Lim announced the national cancer management business and essential medical care, the performance and limitations of regional cancer centers, the establishment of an equal regional cancer management foundation, and presented opinions on the establishment of a medical cooperation network centered on regional cancer centers and the role of secondary medical institutions.
The second part of the presentation was held as a symposium commemorating the 20th anniversary of the regional cancer center, with Choi Gwi-sun, head of the National Cancer Management Project. Kang Jeong-hoon, director of the Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center, introduced the performance and development direction of the 20th anniversary cancer management project in Gyeongnam. Seo Je-hee, a professor at Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital, then suggested the direction of development under the theme of the regional cancer center reconstruction plan. Various development plans were also presented in the following panel discussions.
