'충격! 쪼개지는 세계 축구판' 아프리카→아르헨티나→멕시코, 연달아 인판티노 FIFA 회장 지지 나섰다..'유럽은 여전히 반대 목소리 유지, 추가 이탈 나오나'

[스포츠조선 노주환 기자]궁지에 몰린 국제축구연맹(FIFA) 지아니 인판티노 회장을 지지하는 세력이 생겼다. 아프리카축구연맹(CAF)과 아르헨티나가 인판티노 회장을 지지하는 것으로 알려졌다.

최근 유럽축구연맹(UEFA)을 중심으로 FIFA 월드컵 등 대회의 사적 투자를 허용하려 했던 논란의 월드컵 계획 이후 인판티노의 FIFA 회장직 사퇴를 요구해 왔다. UEFA는 인판티노가 회장직을 유지할 경우 다음 월드컵을 보이콧하는 기조를 유지하고 있다. 잉글랜드, 웨일스, 세르비아, 스웨덴축구협회 등은 인판티노 회장에 대한 지지를 철회하기도 했다.

2016년 세계축구 수장에 오른 인판티노는 4번째이자 마지막 FIFA 회장을 노리고 있다. 최근 그의 야심찬 월드컵 자사회 설립 계획이 수포로 돌아가면서 전세계적으로 비난의 화살이 쏟아졌다. 유럽축구연맹을 중심으로 인판티노 회장에 대한 반대 목소리가 나왔고, 월드컵 대회 보이콧 선언까지 이어졌다.

그런데 이런 분위기에서 아르헨티나축구협회와 아프리카축구연맹으로부터 인판티노 회장에 대한 지지의 목소리가 나왔다. FIFA의 211개 회원국 중 54개국을 차지하는 CAF는 내년에 있을 선거를 앞두고 인판티노 회장을 지지한다는 성명을 최근 발표했다. 성명서에서 "CAF 집행위원회는 인판티노 FIFA 회장에 대한 지지를 만장일치로 재확인했으며, 그동안 아프리카 축구를 지원해 준 점에 대해 감사를 표했다"고 밝혔다.

파트리스 모체페 CAF 회장도 인판티노 회장에 대해 언급했고, 이런 행보는 SNS에서 큰 비판으로 이어졌다. 모체페 회장은 "CAF는 인판티노 회장과 마티아스 그라프스트룀 사무총장의 최근 조치를 환영한다"면서 "우리는 지배구조, 정당한 절차, 투명성의 글로벌 최우수 사례를 수호 및 준수하고 전 세계 축구의 발전과 성장에 기여하기 위해 FIFA, 회원국 축구협회, 타 대륙 축구연맹 및 이해관계자들과 계속 협력할 것을 약속한다"고 말했다.

아프리카와 더불어 아르헨티나도 인판티노 편에 섰다. 아르헨티나축구협회는 "솔직하고 직접적인 대화를 통해 함께 축구를 계속 진흥할 수 있다"고 밝혔다. 멕시코축구협회도 인판티노 회장에 대한 종합적인 평가를 요구하며 그를 지지했다.
