[Sportschosun Jung An-ji] Broadcaster Hyun Young opened up about a painful story in which her strong drive to educate her daughter left the child under extreme stress, expressing deep regret.
On the 24th, MBN's 'Dongchimi' released a teaser titled, "Hyun Young burns with educational zeal for her daughter, then ends up stopping all lessons for this reason?!"
In the video, Hyun Young said, "While raising my first child, I thought, 'She's my first, so I should do well. I'm a first-time mom too, so I need to raise her really well,' and I pushed her hard and taught her from the beginning."
She recalled, "One day, while my child was solving workbooks, a pimple appeared on the top of her head," and added, "She kept picking at it with her hands as she worked through the books, so it became a wound, and it looked almost like alopecia areata."
Hyun Young said, "She was nine years old at the time," and added, "Before that, I had been pressuring her, saying, 'You need to study quickly,' but the moment I suddenly looked at her scalp, I thought, 'What am I doing to this child right now?'"
She confessed, "I was so shocked that I cried that day," and said, "It hit me all at once: 'What have I been doing to my daughter?'"
In the end, Hyun Young laid out her daughter's entire schedule and asked for her honest opinion. She said, "I told my daughter to mark everything she didn't want to do, and she really marked almost everything as something she hated."
Hyun Young said she stopped all lessons after that. "I felt so sorry that I hadn't realized my daughter was under so much stress that she was developing heat rash on her scalp, so I cut everything out," she explained. She added, "I told her to just go to school and then play as much as she wanted."
Meanwhile, Hyun Young married a man four years her senior who works in the financial sector in 2012, and they have a daughter and a son.
Both of Hyun Young's children are currently attending an International School. The school drew attention after it was reported that tuition alone could reach 600 million won per child if a student completes everything from kindergarten through high school.
