[Sportschosun Reporter Jung Yu-na] Beauty brand CEO and influencer Kim Soo-mi opened up about the mental anguish she went through while running her brand, and announced a fresh challenge three years later.
On the 25th, Kim Soo-mi released a video on her YouTube channel titled "Why I Restarted Yuira After Three Years!" and announced the relaunch of the brand.
In the video, Kim Soo-mi said, "My brand Yuira is being relaunched after three years," adding, "We will open the online store on July 1, and we have also prepared a small party in Hannam-dong for the offline launch."
She went on to say, "Because I am starting again after taking a three-year break, I feel determined, but I am also nervous. There were more Yuira fans than people who liked me. There were many people who waited for the products," expressing her gratitude.
She also spoke candidly about why she had stopped operating Yuira. Kim Soo-mi said, "Over seven years of running the brand, the staff grew and the way we operated changed a lot. It was hard. I am an ISFJ (Defender), so I get hurt easily and I am the type who likes people. Every time a staff member left, I was deeply hurt. It felt like a breakup after love. I kept thinking, 'Did I not treat them well enough?' and slowly wore down my self-esteem. When sales were weak, I blamed myself too, and I kept putting the cause of every problem on me. I became mentally exhausted."
She explained, "The company was running well, but I was hurting too much. In the end, I decided I needed to rest and stopped operating the brand."
As for what led her to relaunch, she said, "There were rumors that I had received investment, but that is not true. Even after I stopped, I kept using Yuira products, and I eventually used them all up. I thought, 'If I am going to use something, I should make it myself,' so I contacted the manufacturer again."
She added, "After thinking about whether to use them again with customers, I decided to relaunch. I got an office in December last year and began preparing in earnest."
Meanwhile, Kim Soo-mi announced her divorce from Dynamic Duo member Gaeko in January. The couple married in 2011 and have one son and one daughter, but they ultimately separated after 15 years of marriage. They said they plan to continue carrying out their responsibilities and roles as parents together, unchanged after the divorce.
