[Sportschosun Reporter Jo Ji-young] Disney and Pixar's animated film "Toy Story 5" (directed by Andrew Stanton and Makenna Harris) earned $160 million, or about 244.992 billion won, in North America over its opening weekend, setting a new all-time high for the franchise.

According to Box Office Mojo, "Toy Story 5" topped the North American box office with a dominant $160 million opening weekend.

The film easily surpassed the North American opening totals of Disney and Pixar hit "Inside Out 2" ($154.2 million) and last year's No. 1 film at the domestic box office, "Zootopia 2" ($100.26 million). It also crossed $312 million in cumulative worldwide revenue, or about 477.6408 billion won, marking a powerful box office milestone that trails only "Inside Out 2," which holds the No. 1 spot among Disney and Pixar films with a global opening of $384 million. In particular, this achievement carries added significance as the highest figure ever recorded for the "Toy Story" series.

That global box office surge is also continuing strongly in South Korea's theaters. Since its release on the 17th, "Toy Story 5" has held the No. 1 spot at the overall box office for six straight days and is now closing in on 1 million cumulative admissions. At the heart of its explosive success is an emotional resonance that has won over audiences across generations.

"Toy Story 5" follows Jessie, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the other toys as they reunite for an unpredictable journey after the arrival of Lilypad, a smart tablet that becomes Bonnie's new friend and throws them into an unprecedented crisis. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, and Greta Lee lend their voices, while Andrew Stanton, who helped develop the previous installment, and Makenna Harris, who produced "Elemental," directed the film.
