[Sportschosun Reporter Lee Ge-eun] Former ssireum wrestler Baek Seung-il said he lost 10 kg while caring for his wife, singer Hong Ju, who is undergoing cancer treatment.
Baek and Hong appeared on KBS1's "Morning Forum" on the 15th.
Hong said she was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in March. "I had surgery on March 23 and have already gone through my third round of chemotherapy," she said.
Baek said, "Her cancer diagnosis felt like a bomb had gone off in our home. I cried a lot after seeing her go into the operating room." Hong recalled, "The surgery was on my husband's birthday, and I was terrified before the operation." Footage from before the surgery was also shown, with Hong looking extremely tense as she held Baek's hand.
Hong explained her condition at the time, saying, "The cancer had not spread to any organs, but it had spread to the lymph nodes and the peritoneum. Fortunately, it had not spread to the intestines, but everything else had to be removed."
Since then, Baek has been taking care of all the housework, including preparing customized meals for Hong and cleaning the house. He said he lost 10 kg while eating healthy meals with her and doing chores, adding, "I was doing things I had never done before, and the weight just came off."
When asked, "Which is harder, ssireum or housework?" he replied, "Housework is harder. I respect mothers in Korea. Household chores never end, and no one really notices them."
The couple married in 2012 and have one daughter.
