BTS Named One of the Best Albums of 2026 by Rolling Stone and NME

[Sportschosun reporter Baek Ji-eun] BTS has once again been recognized for its musical artistry.

On the 12th local time, U.S. pop culture outlet Complex, followed by Rolling Stone on the 15th and the British music magazine New Musical Express (NME) on the 16th, each selected BTS's fifth full-length album, "Arirang," as one of the "Best Albums of 2026."

Rolling Stone said, "The biggest news in the global music market in 2026 is undoubtedly BTS's comeback," adding that "through 'Arirang,' they brilliantly translated Korean sensibilities into music." NME described BTS as "the biggest boy band in the world" and said the group had perfectly delivered what it has always done best: blending its cultural heritage with global musical influence. It added that BTS had made a stylish return to its strongest territory. The Daily Telegraph also included "Arirang" in its list of the "best albums released so far in 2026." It praised the group, saying, "BTS is the face of K-pop. They have returned to their hip-hop roots and actively woven Korea's distinct cultural identity into their music." U.S. online outlet Salon also named "Arirang" its "album of the year," highlighting the record's dynamic sound and praising the members as mature artists and outstanding storytellers.

Praise for the album's tracks has continued as well. Complex said, "'Pied Piper' was a work that commanded an undeniable presence, and '2.0' completely captivated even those who had been skeptical of the group's direction." NME singled out "Body to Body" as a must-listen track. U.S. music outlet Consequence named "Hooligan" and "Swim" among the best songs of the first half of 2026. The outlet explained that "BTS is adept at handling a wide range of genres. They show their true strength by delivering intricate rap over hard-hitting hip-hop beats," praising the group's broad musical spectrum and exceptional versatility.

BTS will kick off its European tour in Madrid, Spain, on the 26th and 27th. The group is currently carrying out "Arirang," the largest world tour ever by a K-pop artist.
