[Sportschosun Reporter Jo Min-jeong] Comedian Ji Young-ok is mourning the death of her mother.
According to an MK Sports report on the 23rd, Ji Young-ok’s mother has passed away. The news was reportedly relayed through fellow comedian Kim Hak-rae.
The funeral altar has been set up at Seongsim Funeral Hall in Daejeon, and the funeral procession is scheduled to take place at 6:30 a.m. on the 25th.
Along with the sudden loss, Ji Young-ok’s affectionate words to her mother during her lifetime are also drawing renewed attention.
Ji Young-ok previously appeared on MBN’s "Special Report World," which aired last year, and shared her daily life caring for her mother, who had been diagnosed with dementia at the age of 97. At the time, she was moved to tears as she recalled how her mother had quietly supported her through difficult times.
Ji Young-ok said, "When I was going through a hard time after being scammed, my mother even sold her house to help me with money." She added, "I really want to tell her that I’m sorry, but now she can no longer fully understand what I mean," leaving viewers deeply moved.
Ji Young-ok made her debut in 1983 as part of the third class of the MBC Radio Comedian Contest and became widely known through a variety of public comedy programs. In particular, she won great popularity for the catchphrase "Move out!" from the hit segment "Three Couples," establishing herself as one of the leading female comedians of the 1980s and 1990s.
