[Sportschosun Jung An-ji] Gree opened up about his honest feelings, saying he wants to step out of his father Kim Gu-ra's shadow.
On the 27th episode of KBS 2TV's 'Mr. House Husband Season 2' (hereinafter 'Salimnam'), Gree, who had been discharged from the Republic of Korea Marine Corps five months earlier, appeared as a special guest on 'Salimnam' and showed off his real father-son chemistry with his dad Kim Gu-ra.
That day, Gree invited his father Kim Gu-ra and showed his determination, saying, "Today, I'm going to do whatever I want." But veteran entertainer Kim Gu-ra took over the atmosphere with his trademark wit and hosting skills, stepping in personally from the filming details to the direction and making his presence felt.
In the end, Gree declared, "I felt it deeply today. This really is my last time appearing together." Kim Gu-ra then advised him, "Entertainment is about being consumed by the public, so I hope you can be more proactive and work harder."
Gree said, "That's a perfectly reasonable concern," and added, "I counted all the calls my dad made after hearing about the 'Salimnam' meeting, and he called 40 times." His revelation surprised everyone. Seeing Kim Gu-ra pay more attention to his son's first solo variety show offer than to his own schedule, Eun Ji-won remarked, "He's really meticulous. I thought he'd be very indifferent."
Kim Gu-ra said, "Your level of recognition is a bit ambiguous. If you were completely unknown, you could go anywhere and work hard. But that's not really your situation, is it?" He continued, "And you're not at a level where people are waiting for you either. When I was getting my body hair removed earlier, I came prepared to shave it all off. At your age, it's time to work hard."
In response, Gree said, "It's not that I don't work hard. I try to do my best," and added, "I'm usually tied to my dad. So I've never really taken the lead on something by myself," honestly expressing how he feels about the label of being 'Kim Gu-ra's son.'
He added, "When I explain my activities or music, there are parts that can't be explained just by me. That's where I felt a lot of barriers." Kim Gu-ra then offered heartfelt advice, saying, "You don't call Ha Jung-woo just Kim Yong-gun's son, do you? It's the same thing. Once Dong-hyun reaches a certain position later on, my story won't come up anymore. He needs to push himself a little harder."
