[Sportschosun Jang Jong-ho] Authorities have launched an investigation after a man who threatened passengers with scissors and tried to break into the cockpit on a domestic flight in Russia suddenly died after being restrained by other passengers.
According to local media outlets including Infomoscow24, a man in his 30s suddenly caused a disturbance and threatened passengers on a flight from Moscow to Omsk in Siberia on the 21st, local time. Witnesses claimed he was holding scissors.
He also continued his violent behavior, including trying to force his way into the cockpit.
In the end, several passengers worked together to subdue him, and the crew tied him up with straps to keep him from moving.
After the man appeared to calm down, the crew reportedly removed the restraints.
But he soon lost consciousness and collapsed. Passengers and crew performed emergency measures, including CPR, but to no avail.
After about a three-hour flight, the plane landed at Omsk Airport. Medical staff waiting on the ground boarded the aircraft and checked the man's condition, but he was already confirmed dead.
Russian authorities are now investigating the incident as a whole, including the possibility of negligent death.
The airline involved has not been disclosed, and the identity of the deceased has also not been fully released publicly.
One expert explained, "The exact cause of death cannot be determined until the autopsy results are released," adding, "We cannot rule out the possibility of physical injury during the restraint process or impaired blood circulation caused by the bindings."
He added, "Various medical possibilities, including blood clot formation, must be considered," and cautioned against drawing hasty conclusions.
