In the episode of KBS 1TV's "Let's Live Together with Hwang Shin-hye" that aired on the 10th, Hwang Shin-hye opened up about her family story.
That day, Hwang Shin-hye introduced her younger brother, artist Hwang Jung-eon, saying, "My younger brother is a painter." Hwang Jung-eon was diagnosed with quadriplegia after an accident in his 20s damaged the nerves below his neck. However, he never gave up hope. He learned to paint by holding a brush in his mouth and completing each stroke one by one, building a career as a mouth painter. He has also recently held a solo exhibition, further developing his own artistic world.
She said, "I think my sister-in-law is truly amazing," and added, "She met him after my brother's accident," speaking about the couple's love that transcended his disability.
Hwang Shin-hye continued, "My brother cannot move anything below the neck. It's harder than taking care of a child," and said, "But she is truly incredible." She expressed her gratitude to her sister-in-law, who has always stayed by her brother's side.
In particular, Hwang Shin-hye was moved to tears as she shared her sister-in-law's simple prayer request. She said, "My sister-in-law's prayer request was, 'I want to eat a meal face to face with him.'" She added, "Not something grand, just a small everyday thing. That's how precious daily life is." She went on, "My brother always has to be fed, so he eats while sitting beside her. She said her prayer request was to eat while facing each other, and it felt like I had been struck hard."
In response, Yang Jung-a said, "She must love him so, so much," speaking about a love too deep to fully comprehend. Hwang Shin-hye then drew attention by saying, "It's not the kind of love we usually think of."
