[Sportschosun reporter Jung An-ji] Singer and broadcaster Lee Ji-hye candidly explained why she disciplined her younger daughter Ellie, 5, so firmly during an overseas trip when the child was throwing a tantrum.
Recently, tvN Story's "What's Left Behind" released a video titled "Lee Ji-hye's discipline method that does not waver even when a child cries."
In the video, Pak Se-ri mentioned an episode in which Lee Ji-hye firmly disciplined her daughter during a family trip abroad and asked, "Your approach to child-rearing is different."
At the time, Lee Ji-hye's family was visiting a cafe during a trip to Hawaii when her younger daughter Ellie began to throw a tantrum. In the end, Lee Ji-hye drew attention for her strict discipline, carrying her daughter outside and forcing her to leave.
Lee Ji-hye said, "I always think, 'Let's not cause trouble for others' and 'Let's raise our own child well first.'" She added, "Above all, I did not want to be an ugly Korean." She explained, "Everyone there knew we were Korean, so I absolutely could not accept staying still while my child cried there. I kept warning her at first, saying, 'Stop it.' But when she got even louder, I took her right outside."
Lee Ji-hye said, "I took her to a place where there were no people, stood her in front of a wall, and told her, 'Be quiet. Do not cry out loud. Calm down. If you cry, you cannot go back in.'" Her firm parenting style, which emphasizes discipline for children while still considering others, drew attention.
After hearing this, Lee Young-ja asked, "So after that, she doesn't act like that wherever you go?" Lee Ji-hye replied, "After that, if I say no, she tends to listen," drawing interest.
Meanwhile, Lee Ji-hye married tax accountant Moon Jaewan in 2017, and they have two daughters.
