[Sportschosun Lee Ge-eun] Actor Kim Mu-yeol is drawing renewed attention for his unexpectedly goofy off-screen charm after delivering a charismatic performance in the global hit Get Schooled.
Kim appeared on JTBC's Knowing Bros in 2020 and explained why he and his wife, actress Yoon Seung-ah, went public with their relationship.
He recalled, "Back then, in 2012, I was using Twitter (now X) a lot. I definitely was not that drunk, and I clearly sent a direct message to my wife. I sent it and even checked it, but it turned out I had sent it as a public message." Kim later deleted the message right away, but by then it had already spread.
The message he had sent to Yoon Seung-ah at the time also drew attention. "On a deep night after drinking, I keep thinking of you. I want to hear your voice and keep wondering about your face. I want to call you, but I can't because you might be asleep, so I replace these feelings with a message I write alone today as well. I, who met you as an unexpected variable, find tomorrow so incomplete, awkward, and uneasy. You, who are making Kim Mu-yeol's half of tomorrow like this, seem like you will now make me whole. Good night. I'm just rambling awkwardly today. I could have simply said I miss you."
The Knowing Bros cast burst out laughing after reading the message, and Kim added to the humor by covering his head with his hands. He said, "When the dating rumor article broke, my wife was filming. There was no way to stop the story. It was my big mistake four months into the relationship, so I even thought about breaking up and contacted her. But she coolly replied, 'It's fine. Since it turned out this way, let's just go public.'"
Meanwhile, Kim Mu-yeol delivered a strong performance in the Netflix series Get Schooled, released on the 5th, playing Na Hwa-jin, an inspector at the School Rights Protection Bureau who works to restore order to a broken education system. With intense action and delicate emotional acting, he won praise and quickly captured global viewers' attention. Get Schooled is also enjoying strong popularity, ranking No. 1 in the Global Top 10 non-English TV category.
