[Sportschosun Jung An-ji] Broadcaster Park Myung-soo drew laughs after making an outlandish promise for the South Korea national football team, saying he hoped they would advance to the World Cup round of 16.
On the 12th episode of KBS Cool FM's 'Park Myung-soo's Radio Show,' Park Myung-soo referred to the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan and made a bold pledge.
That day, Park Myung-soo recalled the days when South Korea was writing its round-of-16 and quarterfinal fairy tale at the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan and said, "Back then, the whole house felt like a 60th birthday party." Jeon Min-gi added, "South Korea was buzzing. Everyone I saw outside felt like a friend or a neighbor," capturing the atmosphere at the time and drawing agreement.
Park then said, "If they make the round of 16, I hope they do," before adding, "You can even climb onto my car's hood and jump on it," making a reckless promise that got laughs.
When Jeon Min-gi asked, "Are you going to hide your car away?" Park Myung-soo shot back, "No. I'll just take taxis," drawing more laughter.
He also responded to a listener who asked, "Is today's South Korea vs. Czech Republic match being broadcast live?" by saying, "My heart is going crazy. It is live. I can't watch the TV broadcast, but my ears are open." He added, "I'll deliver the victory news in real time," cheering on the national team.
He went on to say, "Shouldn't we be recording today? There are no people on the streets. The match starts at 11, and we're live at 11," but added, "I think I have to stay at my post, so I'm doing the live broadcast. I'm very grateful to everyone joining us on air."
Meanwhile, South Korea, led by head coach Hong Myung-bo, came from behind to defeat the Czech Republic 2-1 in the opening Group A match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Estadio Akron in Zapopan near Guadalajara, Mexico, on the 12th (Korea time), with goals from Hwang In-beom and Oh Hyeon-gyu.
