[Sportschosun Lee Ji-hyun] Actor Go Ah-sung spoke candidly about her realistic concerns over marriage, childbirth, and her career.
On the 14th, the YouTube channel "Yeouido Parenting Club" featured Go Ah-sung, editor Kim Min-kyung, creator Charles Enter, and director Kim Cho-hee, who discussed work, retirement, and careers with women active in different fields.
That day, she calmly shared her thoughts on the instability of acting and the realities faced by female actors. When asked, "Actors do not have a separate parental leave system, so I imagine pregnancy and childbirth would be a concern," Go said, "When female actors get together, we jokingly say, 'If there is a gap in our schedules, should we just have a baby now?'" drawing attention.
Go also said, "Since you never know when work will come in, I think I feel a bit obsessed with not wasting any downtime," expressing the anxiety many actors feel.
She added, "I also worry that getting married and having children might limit the roles I can take on." She continued, "I have not experienced it directly, but after hearing from people in the industry, I was told that some actors are screened out at the casting stage with thoughts like, 'Isn't this person married?' I think that is even more pronounced for female actors."
Meanwhile, Go Ah-sung, who debuted as a baby model in 1995, first tried acting in the 2004 production "Oolla Boolla Blue-jjang" and is now in her 22nd year as an actress. She said, "I have worked since I was 4, so I am someone who cannot imagine a life that is not about work." When asked what matters more, the work she loves or money, Go chose work without hesitation.
Go added, "People who start working at 4 are usually athletes. They choose a career path at a young age, train hard, and often reach their prime in their late teens." She continued, "They pour everything into it until then, and the rest of their lives often unfold like retirement. I suddenly wondered whether I might be living in that same rhythm too."
