[Sportschosun reporter Baek Ji-eun] Pop star Oliver Tree has died in a helicopter crash. However, his family will not receive the inheritance, which is estimated at 6 billion won.
On the 15th local time, U.S. media outlet Page Six reported that Oliver Tree appeared on "The Jack Show" in April and said, "I don't consider any property to be mine. So I wrote in my will that my family would not receive my inheritance even if I died. The same would have been true if I had a wife or children. When I die, my assets will go to other artists."
In fact, Oliver Tree anticipated that the value of his music would rise after his death. He established the Dr. Oliver Tree Arts Foundation and even formed a committee to support the creation of artistic works.
Born in 1993, Oliver Tree was a singer-songwriter, producer, and film director. After gaining attention with "When I'm Down," he remained active with albums such as "Ugly Is Beautiful," "Cowboy Tears," and "Alone in a Crowd." His distinctive hairstyle, oversized music, and comedic image drew millions of followers and made him widely popular.
However, Oliver Tree faced intense backlash in 2020 for distributing an image that superimposed his own face onto a memorial photo of the late Jonghyun of SHINee to promote his tour. At the time, he remained silent and offered no apology.
Oliver Tree later died in a helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was 32. According to local media, including Hollywood Life, the assets he left behind are estimated at about $4 million, or roughly 600 million won.
