[Sportschosun reporter Kim Jun-seok] The reactions have been mixed as YouTuber Park Wi and singer-turned-actress Song Ji-eun, who are married, have repeatedly shared the physical care routines related to disability on television.
In the SBS variety show Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny, which aired on the 23rd, the couple's hospital visit was shown as they prepared for a marathon challenge.
During the broadcast, Park Wi spoke candidly about physical concerns stemming from the aftereffects of a spinal cord injury and mentioned the bladder Botox injection procedure he receives.
Park Wi explained the procedure in detail, saying, "It is injected directly into the urethra," and the cast members in the studio could not hide their surprise.
Soon after the broadcast, online debate broke out over the scene.
Some viewers responded positively, saying, "It helped me understand the reality of disability that is not easy to encounter," "This could be essential information for someone," and "It is impressive that they are openly sharing uncomfortable realities without hiding them."
Others were less receptive, saying, "Isn't this too detailed for a terrestrial variety show that is not even a personal channel?" "Repeatedly revealing bowel movements, catheters, and bladder issues feels overwhelming," and "I understand it, but it is not easy to watch on television."
In fact, Park Wi had already shared detailed explanations of catheter use and bowel care on the same program in May.
At the time, he explained intermittent catheterization (CIC) and bowel management using suppositories, saying, "There are many misunderstandings that I receive help with both bowel movements and urination, so I wanted to show it directly."
His wife, Song Ji-eun, also explained why he shares such information, saying, "Even among wheelchair users, there are cases where people struggle because they do not know the method."
Park Wi has also consistently shared his rehabilitation process, the daily life of a person with a disability, and bowel and bladder care methods through his YouTube channel.
While the content has been praised for raising awareness of disability and sharing useful information, repeated exposure to sensitive bodily care routines has also intensified public division.
Meanwhile, Park Wi was diagnosed with quadriplegia after a fall in 2014, but after years of rehabilitation, he recovered to a level that allows him to live independently.
After marrying Song Ji-eun last year, he has been meeting viewers through Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny by sharing their newlywed life.
As praise for sharing information to improve disability awareness clashes with criticism over excessive exposure of private matters, public opinion on the couple's candid television appearances is likely to remain divided for some time.
