[Sportschosun Kim Joon-seok] Mija, a broadcaster who once admitted to losing 100 million won in stock investments, has been hit with an unexpected backlash after revealing that she recently bought SK hynix shares and the stock then plunged.
As complaint-style messages from investors poured in, Mija said she was "all over the place," expressing her bewilderment.
On the 23rd, Mija shared a message from a fan on her Social Networking Service (SNS) that read, "I came to check the story after the huge plunge in Hynix (SK hynix)."
In response, she said, "Today, the question box is exploding. I'm all over the place," describing her current situation.
She added, "There are so many questions about Hynix, and especially a lot of people are complaining, so I'm a bit taken aback. I'll think it through and answer later."
Earlier, on the 18th, Mija had directly confirmed her purchase of SK hynix shares by posting on SNS, "I just got into Hynix."
Having already suffered major losses from stock investing, she also showed her determination, saying, "If I lose again this time, stocks are done for me for life."
When asked about the timing of her purchase, she posted a screenshot showing the stock price at around 2.7 million won per share and explained, "I saw it at that level and just bought in."
Once news of Mija's purchase spread, online reactions turned playful.
Netizens left comments such as "Sorry, but please get out. Quickly," "Please stop touching it," and "Please stop," and Mija shared them, joking, "Because of me?"
Even on SK hynix's stock discussion board, posts mentioning Mija's name began to appear.
Seeing this, her husband Kim Tae-hyun teased her with a message saying, "Your name is up on the stock discussion board. You're a star, a star. A human market-top indicator."
On the 5th, Mija had already described herself as a "human market-top detector," saying, "Five years ago, during the stock frenzy, I bought at the top and my money was cut in half. I said I'd never do it again, but recently I couldn't resist and got back in."
In the end, her concern became reality. As the South Korean stock market tumbled amid weakness in Global technology stocks, SK hynix also posted a sharp decline.
With the stock falling well below the 2.7 million won level at which Mija had revealed her purchase, some investors appear to have sent her complaint messages half-jokingly and half-seriously.
Meanwhile, Mija is the daughter of actor Jang Gwang, and she married comedian Kim Tae-hyun, who is six years older than her, in 2022.
