[Sportschosun Jo Yoon-sun reporter] Comedian Lee Kyung-sil opened up about the painful period she went through right after her divorce and the rumors that tormented her at the time.
On the 26th, a video titled "Na Young-seok/Single/When I Was 29, A Chat Session with the Yeogalsix Sisters | Na Young-seok's Monggeul Monggeul" was released on YouTube's Channel Fifteen.
The video showed Na Young-seok, along with Lee Kyung-sil, Ji Seok-jin, Jo Hye-ryeon and Jung Sun-hee, who had appeared together on KBS 2TV's "Yeogalsix" in the past, meeting again after a long time to catch up and reminisce.
Reflecting on her days on "Yeogalsix," Lee said, "I was in a very unstable emotional state. It was a program I did less than a year after my divorce, and when guests came on, I had to dance and be outgoing, which just didn't suit me. I couldn't enjoy it."
She added, "I did 'Yeogalsix,' but it was so hard. That was probably why I said I wouldn't do 'Yeogalsix' for that reason."
Jung Sun-hee said, "Lee Kyung-sil once called me late at night and cried her eyes out. It was all the stress she had been holding in. But her crying kept echoing, so when I asked, 'Where are you?' she said, 'At a karaoke room.'"
Lee then confessed, "This is an even sadder story. The reason I chose a karaoke room was because my mother was at home, so I couldn't cry there. I went there to cry. I didn't even know what echo was, and I just kept playing songs and crying." Her words drew sympathy.
Lee also mentioned the malicious rumors that surrounded her at the time of her divorce. She said, "There were rumors that I had an affair. A reporter called and asked, 'Did the CEO of an entertainment company give you a corporate card, and did you use it at a department store?' I was so wronged by rumors that had been turned into complete fiction."
She continued, "I was so upset that I cried and said, 'I'm someone who never even got a points card from my ex-husband.'" She gave a bitter laugh and added, "I was even more upset, so I told Jung Sun-hee, 'Divorce is already hard, and now there are rumors like this.'"
After hearing this, Jo Hye-ryeon expressed her affection, saying, "It's been 20 years since we first got to know each other. I've become divorced too, and you also went through difficult times, but I really love living through these moments together. I want to keep doing that in the future."
