[Sportschosun Jo Yoon-sun] A child who had drawn sympathy after living in seclusion following the loss of his mother in a drunk driving accident has shared a striking update on how much he has changed.
On the 26th, Channel A's "My Golden Kids" aired a heartwarming update on the family of the child who had previously moved viewers after losing his mother in a drunk driving crash.
In a 2023 episode, the child was shown quitting school and living in isolation after the shock of losing his mother in a drunk driving accident, which deeply saddened many viewers.
That day, the studio featured the child, now 19, and his father, both appearing noticeably brighter. The child said he had passed the middle school and high school equivalency exams on his first try and had also done better than expected on the college entrance exam. He added that he plans to enter university next year.
Ahead of the written test for his driver’s license, the child also said he wanted to "drive to a concert venue once I get my license." His father smiled warmly and said, "Seeing that my son is already at the age where he can get his license and drive, it feels like he has grown a lot."
He also expressed pride in his son's changes, saying, "When I'm having a hard time, he helps a lot with housework or when I ask for help. He still seems like a kid, so he says he wants to do it himself, but even just seeing that side of him makes it clear that he has changed a lot."
The child also said he is currently preparing to live independently. However, his father showed concern that after quitting school following his mother's death, his son had little experience with peers or social life and would soon have to step out into society on his own.
In response, Oh Eun-young advised, "Next year, he will become a college student. If the house is too far away, commuting will take a lot of time, so living in a dormitory or renting a room while studying hard and spending free time with friends, seniors, and juniors is not a bad idea." She added, "He is still a student, so financial independence may be difficult, but if emotional and physical independence are possible, I think it would be good to try."
