Backlash Over Wine Substitution at Sung Anh's Restaurant Grows; Michelin Headquarters Steps In

[Sportschosun reporter Kim Jun-seok] The controversy over wine substitution at Mosu Seoul, run by chef Sung Anh, is drawing international attention.

Michelin's headquarters in France is reportedly moving to verify the facts surrounding the matter.

According to The Chosun Ilbo on the 27th, Michelin's headquarters in France has begun a quality review process in connection with the recent wine substitution controversy at Mosu Seoul.

Michelin reportedly told The Chosun Ilbo, "We take all opinions and concerns raised by our customers very seriously," and added, "We have shared the matter with our quality review team and will carefully examine the issue."

The dispute began last month when a customer who visited Mosu Seoul posted online that wine had been served as a different product.

As the post spread quickly, criticism over the reliability of the service continued to mount online.

As the backlash grew, Mosu Seoul issued an official statement saying, "Chef Sung Anh and everyone at Mosu take this matter very seriously," and apologized, adding, "We will thoroughly review our services and do our best to prevent this from happening again."

Sung Anh later released an additional statement, saying, "I once again offer my sincere apologies for disappointing you with the inadequate service at Mosu."

He also explained, "The sommelier involved was instructed to submit a written report in accordance with company rules, and we have taken steps to remove that person from the sommelier position responsible for wine."

Even after the apology, the controversy did not easily subside. Some internet users claimed that critical comments related to the issue were deleted from the YouTube channel, and criticism also followed when Sung Anh uploaded content titled "Late-night snack recommendations" shortly after the apology, with some saying the response lacked sincerity.

Online reactions such as "Shouldn't he be reflecting first?" and "It feels like he's fighting to the end" continued to fuel the criticism.

With Michelin's headquarters now reviewing the matter, attention is turning to how the controversy may affect Mosu Seoul's future evaluations and operations.
