[Sportschosun, Reporter Jang Jong-ho] A former resident doctor in Japan has been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of secretly filming a pregnant woman's delivery in an operating room.
The doctor claimed that he had done it for research purposes, but police applied charges of illegal filming for sexual purposes.
According to Japanese media outlets, including The Yomiuri Shimbun, Osaka Prefectural Police said on the 10th that they would send a former doctor identified as A, 26, who had worked at a hospital in Shiga Prefecture, to prosecutors on charges of violating the law on punishment of sexual photography.
Investigators said A is accused of secretly filming a pregnant woman's labor and delivery in an operating room at another hospital he visited during training last August, using a tiny wristwatch-shaped camera. The victim reportedly did not realize she had been filmed at the time.
During questioning, A argued that "filming the delivery was for research purposes." However, police determined that it could not be considered medical research and applied charges of illegal filming for sexual purposes.
The case came to light during an investigation into another illegal filming allegation.
Police arrested A in February this year on suspicion of trying to film under the skirt of a high school girl at a commercial facility in Kita Ward, Osaka. It was later found during a search of his home and belongings that the camera contained footage of a pregnant woman.
During the investigation, A is also said to have stated that he had committed about 100 illegal filming acts at commercial facilities, television stations, and other locations since last spring.
The hospital where A had worked said he resigned voluntarily after his arrest.
