[Sportschosun Jang Jong-ho] Gyeongsang National University Hospital, led by President Ahn Sung-ki, said on the 12th that its Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center, headed by Kang Jeong-hoon, held the "Gyeongnam Cancer Management Project Council Meeting" in the large conference room on the second floor of the center on the 11th.
The meeting was organized to share the current status and key tasks of cancer management projects in South Gyeongsang Province and to explore ways to strengthen a community-based cancer prevention and management system.
Attendees included officials from South Gyeongsang Province and the Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center at Gyeongsang National University Hospital, heads of city and county public health centers, staff in charge of cancer management projects, and working-level officials from the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) and the Planned Population Federation of Korea. They shared updates on local cancer management projects and discussed ways to build a cooperative network among institutions.
Professor Kim Mi-ji of the cancer management division at the Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center presented an overview of the center's 2026 projects under the title "Introduction to the 2026 Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center Project." She outlined major initiatives and plans, including the operation of the cancer management project council, a regional cancer management project evaluation competition, community cancer prevention and management education, the cancer registry statistics project, the integrated support center for cancer survivors, and the home hospice program.
The center also introduced its regional specialty project, "Strengthening Capacity for Tailored Cancer Screening Guidance and Improving Screening Rates," which it is promoting this year. It stressed the need for cooperation to develop educational materials that reflect field feedback and to establish effective promotional strategies for cancer screening.
Kang Jeong-hoon, head of the Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center, said, "Because cancer is a disease in which prevention and early screening are more important than anything else, close cooperation between the community and related institutions is essential." He added, "The Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center will continue to work closely with South Gyeongsang Province and local health institutions and do its utmost to contribute to cancer prevention and health promotion for residents."
Meanwhile, the Gyeongnam Regional Cancer Center carries out projects across the full spectrum of cancer management, including prevention, screening, treatment, survivor care, and hospice services. It is also promoting a range of cooperative projects to build an integrated, community-centered cancer management system.
