[Sportschosun Jang Jong-ho] Park Jin-sik, chairman of Hyewon Medical Foundation Sejong General Hospital, has been elected the 10th president of the Korean Association of Medical Corporations, the representative body for more than 1,300 medical corporations nationwide.
The association made the decision on the 25th at its 22nd regular general meeting held in the Grand Ballroom of Seoul Garden Hotel.
Park, a cardiologist who graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship at Seoul National University Hospital, joined Sejong General Hospital, Korea's only heart-specialty hospital, in 2008 as head of cardiology. He later served as head of planning and hospital director, and has led Bucheon Sejong Hospital and Incheon Sejong General Hospital as chairman of Hyewon Medical Foundation since 2014.
Park is focusing on improving the hospital's public role and sustainability by strengthening direct communication with patients, building closer cooperation among medical institutions, maintaining steady exchanges with local communities, and practicing leading ESG management.
He has also set an example of practical ESG management by operating the ESG Management Committee, introducing reusable surgical gowns, and reaching 1,700 cases of overseas medical volunteering. Through these efforts, he is presenting a model of communication, cooperation and sustainable management for Korea's medical sector.
In particular, he has helped establish a leading emergency and critical care response system by building the Sejong Cardiovascular Network (SJ-CCN), a nationwide cooperation network linking first-, second- and third-level medical institutions centered on Sejong General Hospital. He is also taking the lead in strengthening cooperation among medical institutions through the operation of Regional Responsible Medical Institution programs.
He is also working to enhance the public role and sustainability of Korea's healthcare system while serving as a member of the Ministry of Health and Welfare Bed Management Committee, secretary general of the Korean Association of Specialty Hospitals, policy committee chair and business committee chair of the Korean Hospital Association, and vice president of the Korean Association of Medical Corporations.
At the meeting, Park said, "Medical corporations across the country are quietly carrying out their responsibilities, but they are now facing difficulties amid a range of pending issues."
He also pledged that, as the 10th president of the Korean Association of Medical Corporations, he would work to improve public awareness of medical corporations, strengthen the legal and institutional foundation for medical corporations, and enhance the rights and interests of member medical corporations.
He added, "The growth of medical corporations and the protection of their rights are essential to securing the sustainability of Korea's healthcare system. I will take the lead in fostering coexistence by strengthening the role of medical corporations in public healthcare." He continued, "With a shared commitment to patients, I will unite everyone and lead the Korean Association of Medical Corporations well. I ask for your continued interest and encouragement in the association's activities."
