[Sportschosun Kim Jun-seok] Actress Hwang Jung-eum opened up about the very real hardships hidden behind her glamorous life in a detached house.
She said she has caught more than 300 cockroaches and even has mice appearing inside the house, surprising viewers.
In a video released on her YouTube channel on the 10th, Hwang Jung-eum invited the production team to her home and shared a glimpse of her daily life.
During filming that day, when a fly buzzed behind her, the crew asked in surprise, "Why are there so many bugs in this house?" Hwang Jung-eum replied casually, "I've caught more than 300 cockroaches alone."
What sounded like a joke soon turned out to be true. Hwang Jung-eum appeared holding a cockroach spray, sprayed the insect, and when it stopped moving, struck it once more with the can in what is known as a "double tap" to make sure it was dead.
When the crew reacted in shock, she said, "I really hate cockroaches too. I usually wouldn't even deal with them, but since no one is home, I have to do it myself. I have no choice."
Hwang Jung-eum said she places cockroach poison throughout the house and regularly disinfects it, but the problem has not improved much.
She added, "I keep putting out poison and disinfecting, but they keep coming back." She also said, "People around me say detached houses are just like that. There are especially a lot of mosquitoes and flies too."
But bugs were not the only problem. When the conversation turned to the basement, Hwang Jung-eum shocked the crew by admitting, "There are mice too."
"I usually don't scream over much, but one day I saw a mouse and let out an involuntary 'Ah!'" she recalled. She then burst into laughter and said, "I don't even know why I did that."
In the end, Hwang Jung-eum joked about herself, saying she had become "an actress who lives with mice."
Even during filming that day, when noises kept coming from above the ceiling, she looked up and checked around the house, saying, "There seem to be unusually many mouse sounds coming from the ceiling and all over the place today."
Though the house looks spacious and luxurious on the outside, Hwang Jung-eum's candid daily life, spent battling cockroaches and mice, brought unexpected laughs and sympathy at the same time.
