[Sportschosun reporter Jo Yoon-sun] Singer Ori made a surprise appearance on Kkokkomu.
The SBS program The Story of the Day When You Bite Your Tail (Kkokkomu), which aired on the 11th, covered the mystery of Seon Yakguk burn ointment, a product once called a "miracle medicine" and remembered like a legend by countless burn patients.
On the show, Ori, who had used Seon Yakguk burn ointment and once worked as a singer, drew attention with her appearance. Returning to the camera after a long time, she introduced herself by saying, "I used to be singer Ori, and now I live as an ordinary person."
Ori recalled the incident, saying, "I was in middle school, and it was the day I bought clothes without my mother knowing. The clothes arrived badly wrinkled, so I took out an iron." She added, "The moment I started ironing, it slipped, and the front of my thigh got burned by the triangular part of the iron."
She said she suffered a severe burn from the heated iron. "My grandmother took an ointment out of a drawer, and it was the kind you could get with a prescription at a regular pharmacy," she said. "As soon as I applied it, the oozing and other symptoms subsided immediately, and before I knew it, the scar had disappeared without a trace."
Jang Do-yeon said of Ori's appearance, "She is now working at a regular company under the name Baek Ji-a instead of Ori, but she came in front of the camera for the first time in a long while to share the story of Seon Yakguk." Jang Sung-kyu added, "Thanks to the burn ointment her grandmother applied, she did not have a scar on her leg, so she was able to wear a short skirt even for her debut stage."
Meanwhile, Ori debuted through KBS 2TV's Music Bank in 2009, but she was known as a "tragic singer" who retired on the very day of her debut after delivering several off-key performances.
After disappearing from the entertainment scene, Ori addressed the rumors that had surrounded her for years in 2024 through the YouTube channel Current Status Olympics.
Regarding rumors that she came from a wealthy family and that her father was a music show producer, Ori said, "My father passed away when I was five. After he died, our family situation worsened a lot."
She admitted, "What hurt me most about those rumors was that I was not from a wealthy family, and I was already struggling in my teens because my father was gone."
Explaining why she stopped performing, she said, "After the stage ended, I went back to the company office, where my mother and the CEO talked for a very long time, and I was told that all schedules would be canceled." She added, "It is true that I retired on the day of my debut." She also said she later suffered from panic disorder and depression, confessing, "My self-esteem was shattered."
