[Sportschosun Aram Park] Jessica Jung, a singer and former member of Girls' Generation (SNSD), has spoken out directly about a recent airport video that drew attention online.
On the 12th, a video showing Jessica Jung arriving at Shanghai Airport in China spread rapidly across Social Network Service (SNS) platforms and online communities. In the clip, she was seen moving through a crowd of welcoming fans, briefly covering her nose and mouth, and then appearing visibly startled.
Some users speculated that she may have reacted to a particular smell, sparking debate. Others said it was difficult to draw any conclusion from such a short video.
As the controversy grew, Jessica Jung addressed the situation herself during a live broadcast on the 13th. "I think many people have misunderstood," she said. "It had nothing to do with a smell."
She continued, "I was talking with a fan at the scene, and I heard that it had been their birthday the day before." She added, "I asked how old they were, and when they said 21, I was really surprised."
"I was amazed that someone so young knew my work and supported me," she explained with a laugh. "I guess my startled expression was exaggerated for a moment. I failed to control my facial expression."
Even after her explanation, reactions online have remained mixed. Some fans said, "Now that I hear the explanation, it does look like a surprised expression," and "It seems people misunderstood after watching only a short clip." Others continued to offer different interpretations and showed ongoing interest.
Meanwhile, Jessica Jung debuted with Girls' Generation in 2007 and rose to wide popularity. After leaving the group in 2014, she has continued her career as a solo singer and entrepreneur.
