[Sportschosun, Kim Soo-hyun] Broadcaster Lee Yong-sik once again showed his devotion to his granddaughter Won I-yeol by preparing an extravagant first-birthday party for her. He also moved viewers deeply with his remark that he would give her everything, even his life.
In the episode of TV Chosun's "Lovers of Joseon" that aired on the 15th, the Lee Yong-sik family was shown preparing and hosting Won I-yeol's first birthday celebration.
The party was held at a luxury hotel, and even the return gifts were high-end, underscoring the scale of the event.
Lee Yong-sik did not hide his affection for his granddaughter. He said she was especially precious because she was the only grandchild born to his only daughter. He added that, unlike with his daughter Soo-min, he had often not been able to spend enough time together because he was busy, and that he wanted to give his granddaughter all the love he could.
Lee Soo-min and her husband Won-hyuk also drew laughs as they spoke candidly about the realities of parenting. Lee Soo-min said, "It takes the whole family of four to lose weight while raising one baby," and it was revealed that everyone in the family had actually lost weight.
Lee Yong-sik, the grandfather, also reportedly lost 22 kilograms by actively taking part in caring for his granddaughter, adding to the surprise.
On the day of the celebration, broadcaster Park Soo-hong attended as the host, making the event even livelier. During the ceremony, Won-hyuk was overcome with emotion as he thought of his wife, Lee Soo-min, and shed tears. Heartfelt moments continued throughout the gathering, with the whole family together.
During the traditional first-birthday selection ritual, Won I-yeol surprised everyone by choosing a building instead of a microphone. The unexpected choice sent the venue into laughter, and rather than being flustered, Lee Yong-sik calmly looked out at the building and said, "Do whatever you want," as if he would buy it for her, showing his warm support for his granddaughter's choice.
He emphasized, "I used to leave for work while watching my daughter sleep, and come home when she was already asleep. That kind of life kept repeating itself. So now, I want to do everything for Won I-yeol without any regrets."
In a letter to his daughter, Lee Yong-sik said, "When you said you were going to marry Won-hyuk, I opposed it for no other reason... I was crazy!" drawing laughter.
He went on to say, "Now that I've come to my senses, I can't help but think: what if you hadn't gotten married? Just thinking about it is terrifying. You did well, my daughter," and expressed his gratitude to his son-in-law Won-hyuk as well.
He confessed, "I had you when I was at my busiest, so I don't even remember how I raised you. The love I couldn't give you then, I will give to Won I-yeol now. I will pour everything I have into Won I-yeol, even my life."
