Kim Da-young Opens Up After Leaving SBS at Bae Sung-jae's Suggestion: "I Didn't Know It Was Okay to Live Like This"

[Sportschosun Lee Woo-joo] Former announcer Kim Da-young has shared an update on her life after leaving SBS.

A recent video titled "I'm sorry...(apology from the top of my head)" was uploaded to Kim Da-young's YouTube channel.

Returning to YouTube after two months, Kim apologized for the delay in uploading. She said, "I didn't start this thinking I would become a full-time YouTuber, but at the beginning of the year, I told myself I would work hard on this channel. It may sound like an excuse, and in a way it is, but I do have one."

Kim said, "A few days had passed after my husband left for the World Cup, and I suddenly had some time to myself. I guess I spend a lot of energy taking care of my husband. Since it takes time for him to come back, I'm thinking about pouring that time back into YouTube."

Kim also said, "When I left my job, I wasn't thinking that I would never work again for the rest of my life, and I didn't make a grand declaration that I was becoming a freelancer. I quit because I thought, 'Let's rest for now.' So for a year, I rested comfortably without thinking about anything, and even now, I'm still in a break. If my energy and circumstances ever line up, maybe I could start again in earnest."

Kim said some people might hear her and think she sounds irresponsible, but added, "I've always been someone who worked hard all my life. There was never a time when I had no goals, and there was never a time when I didn't have a to-do list for reaching them. Because of that, I didn't even know a life like that could exist, or whether it was okay to live that way. I thought it wasn't allowed." She continued, "While taking time off, I realized that just being myself is enough, that it's okay to live like this, and that I can be incredibly happy. I also realized that nothing bad happens even if I don't achieve something."

Kim said she poured the passion she had left after leaving her job into housework. "I cooked a lot and really worked hard at it, and I became a housework expert," she said. "I guess whatever I do, I can't help but do it wholeheartedly. Life seems to be made up of different phases, when you pour your energy into studying, work, romance, or family life. So I feel like I spent the past year and a bit well, even though I wasn't working."

Meanwhile, Kim joined SBS as an experienced announcer in 2021 and left the company in April last year, one month before her marriage to former announcer Bae Sung-jae. She said the reason for leaving was Bae's suggestion. "From my husband's perspective, we met quite late. Looking at our whole lives, the time we can spend together is limited, so he said, 'Wouldn't it be better to spend more time together?'"
