[Sportschosun Lee Ji-hyun] Fun-Staurant was reduced to tears by the story of trot star Lee Soo-yeon and her grandmother.
On the 18th episode of KBS 2TV's Fun-Staurant, warm-hearted uncle Jang Min-ho invited 13-year-old trot star Lee Soo-yeon and her grandmother to a home-style omakase meal.
That day, the studio of Fun-Staurant also became a sea of tears as viewers saw the grandmother's love for her granddaughter and Lee Soo-yeon's thoughtfulness toward her grandmother. Lee Soo-yeon was raised by her grandparents after her father died when she was 7.
The grandmother carefully began by saying, "Soo-yeon's father passed away suddenly in an accident." Lee Soo-yeon spoke about her memories of her father, saying, "I remember that my dad was playful. I don't remember much else, but my grandmother says I am just like him."
The grandmother said, "When Soo-yeon sleeps, she looks exactly like my son. The way she walks and the way she talks are so much alike." She added, "My son was very affectionate and was like a daughter. My husband may have felt left out, but I relied on my son more. I had a harder time." She then became emotional, saying, "People tell me to bury him in my heart, but I can't. For about two years, I suffered from depression and social anxiety. I kept wondering how I could take care of Soo-yeon while I was so ill."
The grandmother explained how Lee Soo-yeon came to be raised as a singer, saying, "Soo-yeon is the family's laughter virus. After her father passed away, she kept trying to comfort me in her own way, but I could not hear it back then." She continued, "One day, I was doing laundry when Soo-yeon sang 'Baet Tteureora,' and I burst out laughing. My husband said, 'Should we send Soo-yeon to Seoul?' and that is how it all began."
Jang Min-ho mentioned Lee Soo-yeon's emotions when she cried while singing his song "You Know My Name," and asked, "How did you feel when the child cried while singing that song?" The grandmother said, "I could not watch it at all. When I wanted to cry at night, I watched the video and cried for three hours." She added, "Whenever I get deeply caught up in my emotions, Soo-yeon comes over and hugs me. In a way, our roles have been reversed," expressing gratitude for her granddaughter, who grew up quickly.
In particular, the grandmother and grandfather are doing their best to support their precious granddaughter, Lee Soo-yeon. The grandmother said, "Even now, my husband says he has to stay healthy and by Soo-yeon's side until she turns 19," adding, "He has worked so much that his hands are not in good shape now," and expressed concern.
When Jang Min-ho brought up Lee Soo-yeon's income, the grandmother said, "We are saving all of Soo-yeon's earnings. Everything is written down, from where it came from to how much. We have to save every penny until Soo-yeon turns 19 and can manage her own money. We have not touched a single won." Lee Soo-yeon also drew attention by adding, "I keep telling them I am fine and asking them to spend it, but my grandfather scolds me and says no."
