[Sportschosun Kim Jun-seok] Actress and painter Lee Hye-young candidly revealed the truth behind the "1.2 billion won leg insurance" that drew huge attention 30 years ago.
On the 18th, a video titled "Three Walk-In Closets and 30 Years of Lee Hye-young's Timeless Fashion Archive, Revealed for the First Time" was uploaded to the YouTube channel "Hye-young Can't Be Stopped."
That day, Lee Hye-young showcased the shoes and fashion items she had collected over decades and shared her style philosophy. While introducing various heels, the much-talked-about "1.2 billion won leg insurance" from the past came up naturally.
When the producer said, "You have so many heels," Lee Hye-young replied, "I kept hearing that my legs were beautiful, so I liked heels."
She then openly admitted that the 1.2 billion won leg insurance she took out in her 20s was meant to create buzz, saying, "I got leg insurance to make headlines."
Lee Hye-young explained, "Once the buzz died down, I switched it to a whole-life policy," adding, "It's a completely different insurance policy now."
She also drew laughter with her trademark bluntness, saying, "There is no such thing as leg insurance. You don't need that kind of thing."
Previously, Lee Hye-young drew attention when it was reported that she had taken out a 1.2 billion won leg insurance policy at the age of 24, thanks to the popularity of her beautiful legs.
At the time, the unusually large insurance amount and her nickname, "leg beauty," made her the center of public attention.
Meanwhile, Lee Hye-young married singer Lee Sang-min in 2004, but they divorced the following year. She remarried a financial businessman in 2011 and became a stepmother to two daughters. In 2021, she was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent major surgery to remove part of her lung.
