[Sportschosun Reporter Kim Jun-seok] Park Myung-soo made a public request to Seoul Metropolitan City Mayor Oh Se-hoon, asking him to hold a World Cup street cheering festival in downtown Seoul.
On the KBS Cool FM program "Park Myung-soo's Radio Show," which aired on the 19th, Park Myung-soo mentioned the South Korea national football team's group-stage match against Mexico at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and shared his thoughts on cheering culture.
That day, Park said, "If we win today, Mayor, let's fire it up at City Hall or Gwanghwamun," suggesting a large-scale cheering event at Seoul Plaza or Gwanghwamun Square.
He added, "Let's all gather together. When do we ever gather? We've always gathered because of protests," and said, "Please show the public coming together for something good."
He went on to joke, "Let's have singers like Yoon Do-hyun come out, and I'll come out too, and really make it feel like a party," adding, "The whole country is in a party mood and all this excitement—are we just going to sit still?"
Finally, he added, "Mayor Oh, please keep this in mind," lifting the mood with his trademark cheerful banter.
Park's remarks appear to be aimed at creating a festive space where people can cheer together as World Cup excitement builds.
Meanwhile, the South Korea national football team, led by head coach Hong Myung-bo, faced Mexico in the second group-stage match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, on the 19th (Korea time).
