Comedian Ahn Young-mi is facing speculation that she will give birth to her second son overseas, but her agency has stepped in to calm the controversy.
On the 22nd, Media Lab Siso, Ahn Young-mi's agency, said, "The second child is a boy, and this birth will take place in South Korea."
It added, "Her husband, who currently lives in the United States, will return home in time for the delivery and stay by her side to share in the joy of the birth."
The rumors surfaced after Ahn Young-mi announced her maternity leave on social media on the 21st. Along with an update on her recent life, she wrote, "I will come back after safely delivering a healthy baby."
Ahn Young-mi, who is currently hosting MBC FM4U's "2 O'Clock Date with Ahn Young-mi," has taken a break for childbirth, expressing both gratitude and regret to the production team and listeners as she stepped away temporarily.
However, once news of her maternity leave spread, online communities and social media were again flooded with interest in where she would give birth. Since her husband works in the United States, speculation continued that she might "give birth in the U.S. again."
Ahn Young-mi previously gave birth to her first son in the United States in 2023, which led to controversy over so-called birth tourism. At the time, she explained that she had chosen to go to the United States so she could share the moment of childbirth with her husband, who lives there. Still, the issue grew as online speculation and malicious comments spread.
Media Lab Siso said at the time, "Ahn Young-mi temporarily paused her broadcasting activities so she could share the joy of childbirth with her husband, who lives and works in the United States." It also said it was considering strong legal action against false information and malicious comments.
As similar speculation emerged again this time, the agency made clear that the second delivery will take place in South Korea, drawing a firm line under the rumors.
Meanwhile, Ahn Young-mi married a non-celebrity man who works in the United States in 2020. She gave birth to her first son in 2023 and is expected to welcome her second son in July. Her husband is also set to return home around the time of the delivery, meaning Ahn Young-mi will greet her second child in South Korea with her family's blessings.
