Go Jun-hee Responds to Harsh Criticism After Variety Show Appearance, Even Clarifies Misunderstanding Over Being Seen as 'Too Cool'

[Sportschosun, Reporter Jo Yoon-sun] Actress Go Jun-hee has spoken directly about the 'too cool' image surrounding her.

On the 23rd, a video titled "Explaining Why People Misunderstand Me" was released on the YouTube channel Go Joon-hee GO.

In the video, Go Jun-hee visited a speech academy to overcome her variety show nerves and the public misunderstandings about her.

That day, Go Jun-hee said, "I feel like I'm naturally a slow person, and I also get very nervous on variety shows. I decided to take on variety shows with an open mind, and I'm doing it now. Sketch comedy is fun because it's acting too. But variety shows aren't just about following a script; you have to work with the other cast members, and I think I may also lack empathy because I'm a bit of a T-type person."

She also said that she often hesitates before acting. "That's why I kept putting off posting on Instagram, and I ended up losing nearly 200,000 fans," she said. "I would think, 'What should I post on Instagram? What caption should I write?' and then decide, 'I'll post it later.'"

The speech instructor pointed out, "You talk too long. By the time you're done, the staff might have already left. There's no clear point, and because you speak at such length, it already feels boring."

In particular, after appearing on a recent YouTube channel, Go Jun-hee drew harsh criticism from netizens, who said she "couldn't handle the skit and cut it off," "had weak reactions," and was "too cool and frustrating."

In response to a comment saying she seemed "obsessed with being cool," Go Jun-hee explained, "I'm not cool. I've been misunderstood for 20 years. If I stay quiet, people often think I'm very cold and hard to approach. I hear that a lot, but I'm just a little slow when I speak."

She then watched her own appearance with the staff and received feedback on her lack of reaction, weak back-and-forth chemistry, and rambling speech. Go Jun-hee also said, "Even I don't know what I'm saying," adding, "I want to learn how to speak in a more organized and expressive way."

She later worked to improve through speech lessons. "I need to respond a little faster and make my reactions bigger and more appropriate," she said. "If there was any misunderstanding, I hope people can let go of their frustration. I was imagining the situations when I did the skit, but after seeing comments saying I was 'doing my own thing,' I realized for the first time that it could come across that way. I'll make sure to use what I've learned from now on."
