[Sportschosun Lee Ge-eun] The daughter of actor and painter Lee Hye-young was moved to tears as she recalled the time her mother was battling lung cancer.
On the 25th, a video of Lee Hye-young meeting her daughter was released on the YouTube channel "Hye-young Can't Be Stopped."
Lee Hye-young and her daughter met in Los Angeles (LA) and showed off their close mother-daughter chemistry. The two shared a warm, friendly conversation that drew attention. Her daughter introduced herself, saying, "I currently live in New York, but I came to LA to see my family. I'm 26, and I used to work at a Michelin Guide Korean restaurant, but I had to take a break because of a severe neck disc problem."
When the production team cautiously asked about Lee Hye-young's feelings at the time of her lung cancer diagnosis, she said, "I was in New York then, and I found out when my father called me." She added that she tried to stay calm at the time. She thought continuing her daily routine as usual would help ease the burden on her parents, who were going through a difficult period.
Her daughter said, "I met my mom after her surgery, and so much had changed. We used to go to the beach together and spend the whole day out, but I couldn't do that anymore, and it broke my heart." Fighting back tears, she expressed how upset she felt. She also apologized to Lee Hye-young, saying, "Even though I knew my mom was having a hard time because she was sick, I think I showed it through irritation. I would think, 'Why can't Mom do it again because she's tired?' I was just disappointed."
In response, Lee Hye-young said, "I feel deeply sorry that I was sick. There was a time when my daughter needed me, but I couldn't visit New York often." She added, "Still, I'm grateful that you have been living confidently and well on your own in New York."
Meanwhile, Lee Hye-young married singer Lee Sang-min in 2004, but they divorced the following year. She remarried a financial businessman in 2011 and gained a stepdaughter. In 2021, she was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent major surgery to remove part of her lung.
