[Sportschosun reporter Park A-ram] It has been 10 years since actor Kim Seong-min passed away.
Kim Seong-min was declared brain-dead and died at the age of 43 on June 26, 2016. Even in the midst of the sudden tragedy, he honored the wishes he had expressed during his lifetime and donated his organs, giving five patients hope for a new life.
At the time, his family respected his wishes and agreed to the organ donation. Two kidneys, the liver, and two corneas were transplanted. Medical staff explained that other organs, including the heart, were damaged during cardiopulmonary resuscitation and could not be donated.
Born in 1973, Kim Seong-min began his acting career in 1995 as part of the 19th class of the theater troupe Seongjwa. After building experience on the stage, he gained public recognition through the 2002 MBC drama "Mermaid Lady." He later appeared in dramas such as "Queen of the Flower Fairy" and "Fantasy Couple," as well as the film "Dusa-bu Ilche 3," continuing an active career. He was also widely loved for his warm charm on the KBS 2TV variety show "Qualifications of Men."
However, he stopped working after being punished under the law in 2010 on charges of drug use. He later attempted a comeback, but was arrested again in 2015 on suspicion of drug use and sentenced to 10 months in prison. He was released in January 2016, but about five months later, the heartbreaking news of his death was reported.
Kim Seong-min was found unconscious at his home in June 2016 and taken to the hospital. Medical staff continued treatment for hypoxic brain injury, but he never recovered. After two brain-death determination procedures, he was declared brain-dead.
