"After Cutting Ties With His Gym," Yang Chi-seung, Who Lost 1.5 Billion Won to Fraud, Takes on a Food Business Challenge in Gangnam: "I Put My Life

[Sportschosun Jung Yoo-na] Former fitness trainer Yang Chi-seung has taken on a new challenge as a restaurant owner.

On the 28th, a video titled "I Quit Being a Gym Owner and Opened a Sandwich Shop" was uploaded to Yang Chi-seung's YouTube channel.

In the video, Yang Chi-seung said he had finally opened a sandwich shop in the underground shopping center near Gangnam Station in Seoul. He explained, "Tasting, revising, making it again, and tasting it again... That was the process I repeated the most before opening." He added, "I tried to show everything as it was, from the preparation stage before opening to the first day after the store opened."

The released video showed him painting the store interior by hand, developing menu items, and promoting the shop. Because the underground shopping center could inconvenience passersby, Yang Chi-seung painted late at night himself. He showed his unusual passion, saying, "If you think of it as work, it's hard. You have to think of it as fun."

He said he put the most effort into menu development. Yang Chi-seung noted, "Product development took a long time. It was difficult because I had to fix the weaknesses after tasting it and also set the price at a reasonable level." He said he went through repeated tastings and revisions.

After the opening, he personally guided customers from Exit 1 of Gangnam Station to the store. Introducing the signature tamago sandwich and chicken breast sandwich, he explained, "I put in a whole chicken breast so there wouldn't be a shortage of protein."

He also said, "I originally thought about opening a tteokbokki shop first, but I needed more time to develop the fried items I wanted." He added, "Once the fried items are complete, I plan to introduce a new style of tteokbokki that has never been seen before."

He then joked, "I'm no longer a gym manager, I'm a sandwich shop manager," and added, "I'm putting my life on the line in the food business. Right now, I'm not thinking about the gym at all," drawing laughs with his apparent break from gym life.

Meanwhile, Yang Chi-seung suffered losses worth about 1.5 billion won after falling victim to a real estate rental scam, which forced him to close his gym. He later drew attention after revealing that he had taken a job as an executive in charge of managing a community facility at a 10 billion won apartment complex in Cheongdam-dong.
