[Sportschosun Jang Jong-ho] As Christopher Nolan's new film 'The Odyssey' approaches its release, the recently unveiled 'Trojan Horse popcorn bucket' merchandise is drawing attention for its unusual design. However, some fans have criticized it, saying it seems more focused on generating buzz than on practicality.

To promote The Odyssey, which opens on July 17 local time, U.S. theater chains recently introduced a limited-edition popcorn bucket based on the Trojan Horse concept. The bucket is designed so popcorn is stored inside the horse's body, and viewers can open a hidden hatch to take it out and eat it. The item has attracted attention for faithfully recreating the iconic Trojan Horse from the story.

But soon after it was revealed, social media was flooded with jokes and parodies about the location of the opening hatch.

Some users commented that the opening looked oddly placed and that it would be inconvenient to actually eat from. Others also pointed out that the amount of popcorn appeared too small. On the other hand, many fans responded positively, saying it is the most faithful movie-themed popcorn item released so far and that they would definitely buy it on opening day.

In recent years, collectible popcorn bucket marketing has become a successful strategy in U.S. theaters to attract moviegoers.

According to the New York Post, notable examples include the car-shaped popcorn tub for Barbie, the lock-style bucket for Mission: Impossible, and the handbag-style container for The Devil Wears Prada 2.

This 'Trojan Horse bucket' is the second limited-edition item tied to The Odyssey. The previously released popcorn bucket shaped like an IMAX film camera reportedly sold out early on its first day. The item is expected to go on sale at AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas, and Cinemark locations in the United States.

Meanwhile, The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan's upcoming film based on the ancient Greek epic. Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, it is already generating strong anticipation ahead of its release.
