According to Chinese media outlets including China.com, on the 8th, a woman identified as A was hit by a turning vehicle while she had briefly stopped on a crosswalk on a road in Beijing to film the evening sunset on her phone.
In released footage from the scene, A sat down after the collision, and the driver stopped the vehicle immediately, preventing serious injury.
After the accident, online debate in China continued over pedestrian safety awareness.
Netizens reacted by saying, "The sunset is beautiful, but life is more important," "You should not use the road like an observation deck," and "You should cross quickly at a crosswalk." Some also blamed the driver, arguing, "I don't understand how the driver could not see her," and "At a crosswalk in an intersection, you should stop first."
Police emphasized, "Pedestrians should move quickly at crosswalks," adding, "Do not linger on a crosswalk or stop to take photos or play around; instead, pass through quickly."
