[Sportschosun Reporter Jang Jong-ho] Gyeongsang National University Hospital's Robotic Surgery Center, led by Director Shin Jeong-gyu, said it reached 1,000 cumulative robotic surgeries in obstetrics and gynecology on the 8th.
The hospital said the milestone was made possible by extensive clinical experience in a wide range of gynecological conditions, including adenomyosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian tumors, cervical cancer and endometrial cancer, as well as the skilled techniques of its specialized medical staff.
Gyeongsang National University Hospital has steadily strengthened its robotic surgery capabilities, first introducing the da Vinci Xi surgical system in 2021 as the first in western Gyeongnam, and then adding the da Vinci SP Surgical System in 2025.
Based on that foundation, the hospital is expanding the use of robotic surgery for complex gynecological diseases and building a specialized treatment system as a regional public medical institution.
Robotic surgery enables precise procedures even within the narrow pelvic cavity through high-magnification 3D imaging and articulated instruments. It helps reduce bleeding and pain while supporting faster recovery.
Professor Shin Jeong-gyu, head of the Robotic Surgery Center, said, "Reaching 1,000 robotic surgeries in obstetrics and gynecology is a meaningful achievement made possible by the medical staff's tireless efforts and the strong trust of our patients." He added, "We will continue to provide high-quality medical services to local residents and contribute to the development of regional healthcare based on our accumulated clinical experience and surgical expertise."
Meanwhile, the obstetrics and gynecology department at Gyeongsang National University Hospital has improved surgical safety and efficiency by standardizing procedures and establishing a multidisciplinary collaboration system since introducing robotic surgery. It is also working to improve patient satisfaction through customized treatment tailored to each patient's condition.
