Seoul National University Bundang Hospital Professor Kim Beom-jun Named WSO Board Member... "International Joint Response Is Essential"

[Sportschosun Jang Jong-ho] Professor Kim Beom-jun of the Department of Neurology at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital has been appointed as a board member of the World Stroke Organization (WSO). He will serve on the board as a representative of the Korean Stroke Society (KSS), with a four-year term beginning in October 2026.

The WSO is the world's largest international academic organization in the field of stroke and leads global standards across prevention, treatment, research, education, and policy.

The WSO board is the organization's highest decision-making body, responsible for setting its operating direction and major policies. It is made up of leading stroke experts from around the world. The appointment was finalized after a member vote and unanimous approval by the executive committee. The first meeting of the newly formed board is scheduled to take place in Seoul during the World Stroke Congress in October.

Professor Kim Beom-jun is a globally recognized authority in stroke medicine. His appointment is seen as recognition of his academic achievements and a reflection of the growing international standing of stroke research in South Korea.

Kim said, "Stroke is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and a joint response from the international community is essential." He added, "As I join the board as a representative of the Korean Stroke Society, I will actively share Korea's research achievements and contribute to raising the standard of stroke treatment around the world."

Meanwhile, Professor Kim Beom-jun is an expert in acute stroke imaging, outcomes after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT), intracranial atherosclerosis, and vessel wall MRI. He has led major domestic studies and the development of brain imaging data. He also serves on the academic committee of the International Stroke Conference and as the International Cooperation Director of the Korean Stroke Society, working to advance academic development at home and abroad.
