[Sportschosun Jo Ji-young] Netflix series 'The East Palace' (written by Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won, directed by Choi Jeong-gyu) will be released next month.
'The East Palace' promises a chilling thrill through the mystery at the darkest corner of the palace and the duo play of Gucheon and Saenggang, who pursue it. Director Choi Jeong-gyu, who drew attention for his detailed direction in works such as 'The Devil Judge' and 'Red Moon Blue Sun,' has teamed up with writers Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won, who built fresh worlds in each project, including 'Bulgasal: Immortal Souls' and 'The Guest.' The collaboration is expected to deliver a new level of immersion.
The poster released that day immediately catches the eye with Gucheon (Nam Joo Hyuk) standing in a pitch-black pond, his body bound with ropes. A bundle of peach branches is strapped to his back, while a dark and ominous red aura approaches him, heightening curiosity about the story he will face. The striking tagline, "Beyond the boundary of reality and into the world of spirits," also fuels interest in the narrative that will unfold in 'The East Palace.'
Nam Joo Hyuk, who has shown a wide range of acting in 'Start-Up,' 'Twenty-Five Twenty-One' and 'Vigilante,' transforms in 'The East Palace' into Gucheon, a man who moves between the "real world" and the "world of spirits" to slash and kill ghosts, delivering a more mature performance.
Roh Yoon-seo, who established herself as a rising star through the Netflix film '20th Century Girl' and the drama 'Crash Course in Romance,' is expected to show a different side of herself as Saenggang, a palace maid who can hear the voices of spirits. Attention is also focused on the chemistry and story of the two characters as they approach the curse that has taken over the palace and its secret.
The king who brings Gucheon and Saenggang into the palace is played by the trusted Cho Seung-woo, raising expectations that he will further enrich the drama.
