[Sportschosun Jo Ji-young reporter] The zombie action film 'Colony,' which has drawn 5 million moviegoers and was produced by Yeon Sang-ho, WOWPOINT and Smilegate, maintained its box-office lead for a fourth consecutive weekend.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network, 'Colony' attracted 301,053 viewers from June 12 to 14, as of 7 a.m. on the 15th, ranking No. 1 at the overall weekend box office in its fourth week since release.
With that, 'Colony' has not only held the top spot at the weekend box office for four straight weeks since its release, but has also continued its runaway success, standing out even amid the release push of new titles such as 'Disclosure Day' and 'Wild Thing.'
Bolstered by broad support from audiences across generations, 'Colony' has surpassed 5 million admissions and established itself as one of the biggest hits in theaters this year. Attention is now turning to what box-office records it will set next.
'Colony' depicts a desperate struggle inside a building sealed off by an unidentified outbreak, where isolated survivors fight against infected people that evolve in unpredictable ways. The film stars Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rok and Gosu, and was directed by Yeon Sang-ho of 'Train to Busan,' 'Peninsula' and 'The Ugly.'
