[Sportschosun, Jo Ji-young] Showbox, which ranked first among investment and distribution companies in box office performance this year, is joining forces with ReelShort to target the global short-form content market.
Showbox recently signed a co-production agreement with ReelShort. ReelShort is a global short-form drama platform available in more than 100 countries and has over 70 million monthly active users.
Through this partnership, Showbox will co-produce short-form dramas based on ReelShort's popular IP. The two companies also plan to expand their collaboration to include original short-form content from Showbox. Content from the partnership will be exclusively released to viewers worldwide on ReelShort for six months. In particular, as ReelShort's existing major IP has already become a sensation in the North American market, attention is focused on the synergy that could emerge when globally proven IP meets Showbox's production capabilities.
Showbox plans to accelerate its push into the global short-form drama market through this project. It took its first step into the market in December last year by beginning production on the short-form dramas 'Bridal Shower: The Missing Bride' and 'My Favorite, Who Became a Ghost, Came Back!' Based on its planning and production expertise accumulated in film and television, the company is expected to roll out short-form content aimed at global viewers and help lead the diversified K-content market.
Showbox said, "By combining Showbox's capabilities, built at the forefront of K-content, with ReelShort's global platform competitiveness, we will expand our business into diverse genres and formats, create new success stories in the global market, and further strengthen our content competitiveness."
ReelShort stated, "Based on ReelShort's platform competitiveness, supported by viewer data insights and a global distribution network, as well as Showbox's strengths in content planning, development, and production, we will present premium short-form dramas aimed at the fast-growing global vertical entertainment market."
Meanwhile, Showbox is a leading Korean investment and distribution company that has delivered numerous box-office hits drawing more than 10 million viewers, including 'The King's Warden,' 'Exhuma,' 'A Taxi Driver,' and 'Assassination.' Since 2020, it has also expanded its success into series, starting with 'Itaewon Class' and continuing with Netflix's 'A Killer Paradox.' Last year, it signed a strategic partnership with M Studio, a major film production and distribution company in Thailand, and has continued to seek expansion in its video content business through ongoing collaboration with domestic and overseas content companies.
