[Sportschosun Ahn So-yoon] The film "Wild Thing" has revealed behind-the-scenes stories about its varied hair and makeup designs.
During Triangle's first album promotions, the group captured the fresh and youthful energy of rookies through Hyun-woo (Kang Dong-won), who highlighted his facial lines with a short bob and streaked highlights; Sang-gu (Uhm Tae-goo), who emphasized his youngest-member charm with a perm; and Byun Do-mi (Park Ji-hyun), who added a bright touch with vivid makeup. For the second album, the styling shifted to a late-1990s mood that matched the music. All the members wore smoky eye makeup for a more intense look, while Hyun-woo's voluminous silver hair, Sang-gu's wild, explosive hairstyle, and Do-mi's antenna-like bangs and braided hair heightened the rebellious atmosphere. Uhm Tae-goo also pulled off a wide range of styles for his role as Sang-gu, who releases a solo album after the group disbands, including dreadlocks and a ponytail with a tail-like finish.
Another striking contrast is the dramatic visual transformation of Choi Seong-gon (Oh Jung-se), who has recently become the center of a social media challenge craze. In the past, he drew inspiration from top youth stars of the era such as Jo Sung-mo, Park Hyo-shin, Ahn Jae-wook, and Won Bin, using a short hairstyle that partially covered one eye to create a mysterious charm. Now, as a real hunter, he shows off raw wildness with rough skin and a scruffy beard, drawing big laughs. Choi's bold hair and makeup, which move between extremes, were made even more witty with ideas from Oh Jung-se himself.
To immerse audiences in the story, makeup director Jo Tae-hee and head makeup artist Kim Na-eun were deeply committed to historical accuracy. They drew on references to the biggest singers and stars from the late 1990s and early 2000s. They produced dozens of wigs for each concept from the sketch stage and even held joint tests to ensure the members looked harmonious together. As a result, the comedy used far more wigs than a typical historical drama, and 98% of the cast wore wigs, showing how much attention was paid to the hairstyles.
Meanwhile, "Wild Thing" is a comedy about Triangle, a three-member mixed-gender dance group that once swept the music scene but was suddenly disbanded after an unexpected incident. Twenty years later, the group takes on a reckless challenge in hopes of seizing a chance at a comeback. The film stars Kang Dong-won, Uhm Tae-goo, Park Ji-hyun, and Oh Jung-se, and is directed by Son Jae-gon, known for "My Scary Girl" and "Secret Zoo." It is now showing in theaters nationwide.
