Napoli Matfia Kwon Sung-jun Reveals How He Became a Building Owner Worth 3.5 Billion Won: "Thanks to the Chestnut Tiramisu Incentive"

[Sportschosun Reporter Jo Yoon-sun] Chef Kwon Sung-jun, known as Napoli Matfia, revealed the story behind his purchase of a building worth 3.5 billion won.

On the 18th, the YouTube channel Dex101 released a video titled "I Will Put a Pause on My Seven-Year YouTube Journey | Off Dex with the 95s."

That day, Dex and MimiMinu, members of the "95s," congratulated Kwon Sung-jun on his recent building purchase.

Earlier, Kwon Sung-jun drew attention after it was reported in February that he had bought a small building in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, for 3.3 billion won. The building has five floors above ground, with a land area of 152 square meters and a total floor area of 303 square meters. It is located between Yaksu Station and Cheonggu Station.

Kwon said, "I plan to open a cafe on the first floor. I am a man who never gives up. I have to take on new challenges. So it is really hard. I want to rest, but I never get the chance."

He also spoke candidly about the purchase price, saying, "It was 3.3 billion won. In the case of a building, taxes are added when you buy it, and that comes to about 150 million won. So you can think of it as around 3.5 billion won." He added, "I did not buy it because I had a lot of money. I pushed myself this time. I really saved every penny to buy it. In my case, I still do not even have a car."

Dex said, "What is really smart about Sung-jun is that he does not indulge in luxury," and Kwon emphasized, "I do not indulge in luxury."

Kwon also said, "People are very curious about how I bought a building," adding, "I have only been on air for about a year and a half, so they think, 'Did he really save that much in that time?'"

He pointed to Chestnut Tiramisu as the biggest source of income that helped him buy the building. He explained, "The biggest contributor was Chestnut Tiramisu. The incentive came in. Since we share the profits, that was actually the biggest factor."

Kwon also said he plans to scale back his broadcasting activities and focus on his main job as a chef. He said, "Around June, when I move and expand the shop, I think I will need to focus on the restaurant. I am starting to reduce my broadcasting, and I am even thinking about stopping altogether from next year. I do not know yet what will happen, but that is what I am thinking now."

He added, "I need to choose and focus, but honestly, I like both broadcasting and cooking. Still, it is too hard to do both well. I have ambitions in both cooking and broadcasting, so I cannot just do one of them halfway."

He continued, "After trying it last year, I do not think doing both together will work. In the end, cooking is my foundation, so I need to focus more on that. From next year on, I think I will work to broaden my base as a chef."

Meanwhile, after winning Season 1 of Netflix's Black and White Chef, released in 2024, Kwon drew major attention with the Chestnut Tiramisu Cup he launched in collaboration with a convenience store chain. The Chestnut Tiramisu Cup has surpassed 2.5 million cumulative sales and 12.2 billion won in revenue as a single product.
