[Sportschosun Jo Min-jung Reporter] BTS member RM will serve as the National Museum of Korea's first global ambassador.
The National Museum of Korea announced on the 20th that it had appointed RM as a global ambassador. This is the first time the museum has selected a global ambassador since its opening.
The appointment was made to promote the value and beauty of Korean cultural heritage around the world and to raise the museum's international profile. RM will take part in a range of promotional activities and introduce Korea's history and traditional culture at home and abroad.
The appointment ceremony took place on the 19th at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan District, Seoul. That day, RM toured the museum's major collections and exhibitions with director Yu Hong-jun, including the special calligraphy and painting exhibition, "Danwon Kim Hong-do, Painting the Times."
RM said, "It is very meaningful to join the National Museum of Korea as a global ambassador," adding, "I will do my best to help more people appreciate the beauty and value of our cultural heritage."
RM has long shown a deep interest in art and cultural heritage, and he has consistently supported and donated to the arts and culture sector. On his birthday in 2020, he donated 100 million won to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Foundation. In 2021 and 2022, he also donated 100 million won each year to the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation for the preservation and restoration of Korean cultural heritage overseas.
In particular, the Pensive Bodhisattva miniature that RM purchased at the National Museum of Korea sold out, and the exhibitions and cultural heritage he introduced drew public attention, proving the so-called "RM effect."
The National Museum of Korea expects that the appointment of RM as ambassador will further expand global interest in Korean cultural heritage.
Meanwhile, RM continues to show steady interest in art, exhibitions, and cultural heritage alongside his BTS activities, establishing himself as a leading lover of culture and the arts.
