[Sportschosun reporter Jo Min-jung] Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon opened up about her honest feelings during the promotions for the hit song "Kissing You."
On the MBC variety show "Hangout with Yoo," which aired on the 20th, Yoo Jae-suk was shown trying to cast singers for the soundtrack of Season 2 of a short-form drama.
That day, Yoo said he had recently been watching the web variety show "Hyorisoo" and then happened to look back at Girls' Generation's past performances. He said, "An old Girls' Generation video came up in the algorithm, and Hyoyeon really stood out to me in the 'Kissing You' stage." He added, "Knowing Hyoyeon the way she is now, the concept of dancing cutely with a candy in hand just seemed so unlike her."
Hyoyeon laughed as she recalled the moment and confessed her bittersweet feelings. She said, "It really hurt back then," adding, "I felt like I wanted to smash all the candies." Her remark sent the studio into laughter.
After hearing that, Kwon Yu-ri bluntly said, "Back then, Hyoyeon was dancing, but her face looked miserable," drawing big laughs. Yoo Jae-suk also chimed in, saying, "Hyoyeon's expression looked like she was forcing a smile," and agreed with her.
In fact, "Kissing You" is one of Girls' Generation's signature songs, in which the group used lollipops as props to show a cute and lively charm. For Hyoyeon, however, it was a somewhat unfamiliar concept, given that she had been loved for her powerful performances and dynamic dancing.
Meanwhile, Hyoyeon continues to meet fans around the world not only through Girls' Generation activities but also as DJ HYO.
