Shim Eun-woo Says She Had a Breast Lump Removed Before It Grew Larger

[Sportschosun Kim Joon-seok] Actress Shim Eun-woo said she is recovering after undergoing surgery to remove a benign breast tumor discovered during a health checkup.

On the 21st, Shim Eun-woo shared a video on her YouTube channel, Ma-eum Sim Eun-woo, showing the process of her breast tumor removal surgery.

In the video description, she said, "During a health checkup in April this year, I found a breast lump that did not look normal." She added, "A biopsy showed that it was fortunately a benign tumor, but I was told it could continue to grow, so I had it removed with a Mammotome procedure."

Mammotome is a procedure that removes benign breast tumors by suction with a special needle instead of making an incision.

Shim Eun-woo said, "The surgery took about 20 minutes." She added, "It was my first time having general anesthesia and being hospitalized for six hours, so I was nervous, but everything went smoothly and I have recovered well."

In the video, Shim Eun-woo also explained the background behind her decision to go to the hospital.

She said, "I was advised to see a breast surgeon after a breast ultrasound during my health checkup." She added, "A lump with an irregular shape was found in my left breast, so I had a biopsy. Fortunately, it was benign, not malignant."

She continued, "The result was hyperplastic fibroadenoma. Many women have benign lumps, but not all of them need to be removed. I was told that removal may be recommended in cases like mine, where there is hyperplasia or the tumor has an irregular shape."

Before the surgery, she remained calm and said, "I understand the operation takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and I plan to be discharged the same day after being admitted."

After the roughly 20-minute surgery, she said, "It feels like I slept very deeply for the first time in a while and just woke up."

Later, while speaking on the phone with her mother, she saw her mother in tears and reassured her family by saying, "Anyone would think I had major surgery."

Before being discharged, Shim Eun-woo said she heard the final results from her doctor and revealed that the surgery cost was in the high 2 million won range.

Finally, she said, "I am glad I was able to find and remove the tumor before it grew larger through my health checkup and breast ultrasound." She added, "I hope many women will get regular breast ultrasound screenings."
