[Sportschosun reporter Kim Joon-seok] Shim Soo-chang, a former baseball player turned broadcaster, revealed that he contacted his ex-wife before looking for new love.
On the TV Chosun program "Love of Joseon" aired on the 22nd, Shim Soo-chang appeared as a contestant in Yang Sang-guk's "Club of Six" audition.
While filling out the application, Shim Soo-chang was flustered when asked whether he was divorced, saying, "Do I have to write the reason too?"
He then wrote that the reason for the divorce was "for each of our new lives" and honestly admitted, "This is the first time I've written something like this since getting divorced."
Later, Yang Sang-guk, who served as a judge, joked like a close friend, saying, "Shim Soo-chang, why are you here? I even hosted your wedding."
Shim Soo-chang fired back, "That was where my life started going wrong," drawing laughter.
But the conversation soon turned serious. When Yang Sang-guk asked, "Would it be okay if your renewed dream of love and marriage were revealed through a broadcast?" Shim Soo-chang shared an unexpected detail.
He said, "I contacted my ex-wife. It had not been long since our divorce, so I thought I should be respectful." He added, "She said she hoped things would go well for me too."
Kim Gook-jin, who heard this, admired their mature relationship, saying, "If she is cheering you on, then it means you parted on good terms."
Shim Soo-chang also did not hide his wish for new love.
He confessed, "I always wanted to have a child quickly," adding, "Since I do not have children, seeing my junior's son receive a pro baseball draft selection this time made me want to find new love even sooner."
Hwang Bo-ra, watching from the studio, also sympathized, saying, "He really means it."
Shim Soo-chang also spoke candidly about how his life changed after the divorce. He said, "I had my own home, but I let go of a lot when I got divorced," and added, "Now I am starting a new life in a small officetel and paying monthly rent."
Attention is now focused on whether Shim Soo-chang, who has stepped onto a new starting line with his ex-wife's support, will be able to find new love.
